Rose Huey, BANDALOOP’s Director of Education and Dancer, on the company’s growth in Oakland, California.

A CAPITAL CAMPAIGN TO RAISE $1-MILLION AND BUILD
A GLOBAL HUB FOR PERSPECTIVE SHIFTING ART

BANDALOOP performs around the world but we work, train, and create from our home studios in West Oakland. We have the chance now to improve and grow our space and provide more support and opportunity for our artist community.

  • BANDALOOP is a dance innovator who continues to influence the genre through performances around the globe. With the only space for vertical dance in the Oakland Bay Area, our expanded headquarters create a world of opportunity for local and international artists.

The Anchor Fund creates BANDALOOP Studios, 8,000 sq ft of fully-rigged vertical dance space in West Oakland. The Studios double our floor space, triple our wall space, and add amenities to support the breadth of our community.

  • BANDALOOP is a generator for artistic talent that combines dance, climbing, and storytelling. In 30+ years we have cultivated 150+ of dance artists and a field of art professionals and production technicians. Since our founding in 1991, there are now over 300 organizations fostering vertical performance around the world.

The Anchor Fund will provide resources to programs like BANDALOOP’s UPDRAFT Artist Residency and Training Group to nurture the field of vertical performance.

  • BANDALOOP celebrates a culture of safety and collaboration while offering the thrill of flight. Our education programs challenge and exhilarate young and adult minds to believe in their unlimited potential.

The Anchor Fund will enhance all-ages education in the air, on the ground, and in partnership with schools and international teaching artists to serve 500+ students annually.

“I love that BANDALOOP allows and welcomes people who were never trained as dancers. Sometimes these things can be intimidating, but it felt very accessible.”

  • BANDALOOP continues our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability (IDEA) through our professional development, hiring, and engagement practices. We acknowledge and lead the dance industry’s need to accelerate and uplift BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ voices.

The BANDALOOP Anchor Fund will provide our community with job opportunities, affordable community space, and free events to gather and experience awe.

"Their movements in the sky, on walls, in unusual spaces prompt the ways a community gazes - upward and sees beauty among itself as a shared experience that enliven our civic life."
    — Roberto Bedoya, Cultural Affairs Manager, City of Oakland

Our vision is to create a space of belonging in the Oakland Bay Area. Join the Anchor Fund and help secure the future of BANDALOOP and create an international center for arts and culture innovation.

What inspires me is that BANDALOOP is an arts and cultural anchor that is playing a role in sustaining artists and our place in West Oakland amidst so much change and displacement for our Oakland community.
— Cristy Johnston Limon, Deputy Director, Department of Economic and Workforce Development, City of Oakland, and incoming BANDALOOP Board Chair
